Ms. Ishai reminds me of the same comedic tastes as Erma Bombeck. In fact, if Erma Bombeck and Woody Allen wrote a book together, Ask Avigail would be it! I really enjoyed this book so much; the pacing and sense of wry humour are hysterical!
This is laugh-out loud hilarious. Although that's the point, to give the reader a fun time, there is also some great insightful comments from Avigail. If you want to read a fun book by someone who for my money, has a wonderful and unique sense of humor (think "female Woody Allen"!!), this is the book for you! I found Ms. Ishai to be a very talented writer, and I look forward to reading what I hope will turn out to be a series!
Ask Avigail, a.k. a. Shashi Ishai is a very funny answer to Dear Abby for problems faced by every Jewish mother, wife and family. I read and enjoyed the paperback version of this book and recommend it to all who enjoy classic Amercan Jewish humor.
I think, in 20 years' time, Avigail will still be read and relevant. She may be positioned as a "Biblical" woman, but her wisdom transcends all historical eras.
